Kids are one of my favourite subjects to photograph, But like anybody, kids look their best when photographed outdoors in natural light… at least that is how i experience. Soft, natural light gives the face a more natural and pleasing shape, makes the skin appear softer.<\/p>\n

This time I have a chance to photograph Rafael (7 yr old) kid with his little brother Aldous (9 month). Kids have a short attention span and most of them will simply be unable to sit still for very long to follow complicated posing instructions. In this case for Rafael I have not too much problems, but Aldous, he is still a baby, It took a lot of patience to get a good pictures.<\/p>\n

An outdoor photo session can allow you to get some great action shots such as the child joyfully running in the grass, playing with a colorful toys and even an interactions with other children. In some ways, I love a great and spontaneous photo of a child is more of a documentary than a portrait<\/p>\n

Get to know my subject and learn how to interact and connect with my model is a must. I must have time, try to get to know the kid before the photo session. Try to determine what the they like, find a common ground, be their friend. Do not be another adult to dictate them what to do.
\nI think there is absolutely no need to ask the child to smile for the camera. Let the child play and enjoy himself\/herself, while you get ready for the shot. Remember, even without a smile or a giggle you can have some emotional, sensitive and touching images. It is important to build a bond with a kid to obtain the best results.<\/p>\n

When parents said to me “Please make a good picture of my kids” I would say, I try my best. But usually, kids give their best when we are as a parents trusting them in what they do in front of the camera. Not telling them to be fake in front of the camera.
